A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a wireless communications service provider that does not own a complete wireless network infrastructure. MVNO’s are allowed, through regulations and agreements with MNOs, to provide mobile services on top of a MNO infrastructure.

MVNOs typically aim for specific subscriber groups and tailor their services and marketing for specific interests with an emphasis on cost savings.  Key challenges include:

Ease of integration and control – A large engineering team is not characteristic of the typical MVNO.   As a result, ease of integration, management and reporting is essential.

Inter Carriers allow network operators and service providers to offer their customers voice, data, and video on 3G and 4G networks spanning global operators.  Inter Carriers transport the international SMS traffic for the roaming subscribers of the MNOs. Trust, Reliability and Security are keywords for this segment.  Key challenges include:

Spamming & Security – Inter carriers are concerned with SPAM traffic causing unnecessary usage of core network resources and signaling network elements.   SPAM is also a subscriber churn accelerator, creating problems for MNO’s.  Virus’s contact premium phone number are high visibility problems that need to be avoided at all costs.
